Mistral Hole Entrance to the Hobbit[edit | edit source]

The entrance climb has an in situ handline rigged to two scaffold bars (April 2016). This drops into a blasted crawl. The crawl widens slightly, and passes some boulders, to enter a small chamber. The way on is to the left, into a muddy crawl; [other passages go straight ahead and downwards.] The crawl becomes low, with puddles. Shortly ahead, the crawl breaks out into a large flat-roofed chamber. A well trodden route leads down a muddy boulder slope. A large walking passage continues, and descends a slope into another large chamber, the Hobbit. Two routes continue:

  • Down to the right leads to Canyon Streamway and Far Streamway;
  • Ahead to the left leads towards Dusty Junction and the caves of Leck Fell.
